Heart And Soul Funerals, based in Totnes and Buckfastleigh, is an award-winning and highly recommended family owned funeral directors established for over 15 years. Our aim is to help you to have / create exactly the right kind of funeral for the particular person who has died by listening carefully to you and helping you to think about the funeral. Whether for burial or cremation, a religious or non-religious funeral there are many choices. Many people choose our beautiful ceremony hall for the ceremony on the banks of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, where you can have a relaxed atmosphere and no time pressures.  

Stunning Location

Whether you are planning for a burial or cremation the ceremony can be in held in different locations. We are fortunate to have a beautiful homely hall to hold a formal or informal ceremony, at our premises by the river Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. We encourage families to make the hall their own for the day and bring decorations, photos and or personal items if they wish. Depending on the size of the gathering the hall can be set up as is most fitting for you from traditional rows or a less formal and intimate setting.

After the funeral ceremony the hall and kitchen can become a welcome space for you to continue the celebration with the sharing of food and drink. We will provide teas and coffees, you are welcome to bring something for a toast. Outside the river can offer moments of tranquility and we can light a fire for you to give another focus. The day is yours to celebrate, say goodbye, acknowledge and spend time together with those that have been touched by the life you are honouring.

Our staff are highly trained, empathic and dedicated people, committed to giving you the highest possible quality of service and all the information you need to make the best decisions. We like to work alongside you, allowing you to be as involved as you wish, undertaking all the tasks you don’t want to do. 

Transparent Pricing

We have an unusually transparent pricing policy. We charge you for the use of our building, facilities and time (mainly on a fixed cost basis). Everything we buy on your behalf, the coffins, cars, flowers, everything, we charge onto you at cost. So you know exactly what you are paying us with no hidden profits. We offer you good value for money with our fair pricing, not aiming to be the lowest cost or the highest by any means, but offering the highest possible standard of care for your family and the person who has died. 

We cover an area which includes Exeter, Torquay, Plymouth and everything in between, using all the crematoria in these areas.

We undertake many natural burials at Sharpham Meadow, Bidwell Woodland, Conquerors Wood, Yealmpton Woodland Burial and South Hams. We are recommended by The Natural Death Centre and are here to support you with private land burials.

Funeral Training

We have also trained over 400 funeral celebrants to take funeral services which reflect the life, values and beliefs of each individual and professional training for funeral directors in more modern attitudes and funeral practices. Our aim since we started has been to improve the quality of funerals in the UK, something about which we are absolutely passionate. Undertaking used to be seen as the ‘grim trade’ personified by men wearing black tailcoats, wing collars and top hats, but it doesn’t need to be like that. Three of our 4 funeral employees are women and, as some children whose father had died tragically young once said “They weren’t at all like the Addams Family!”
