We’re recruiting: On Call & Funeral Attendant
We are a busy, local, independent funeral company, known for our inclusive and gentle ethos.
We are looking for some responsible, strong and organised people to join our team of on-call assistants (out of hours) and occasional funeral attendants. The two roles can be combined, or you may wish to be considered one of them only.
On-call: You need to be both strong (there will be a need to help assist a colleague to carefully move a person who has died, at a hospice, care home or private home) and gentle – because we take particular care to be as careful and graceful as possible, including our interactions with those present around a person’s death.
You will need to be available from 6pm to 6am, for a week at a time (including the weekend). You will always go out with an experienced person. We pay a daily rate for being on-call and a set rate each time you are called out (this is fairly infrequent, so you can go through a whole week and not be called). A typical week might pay £70-£120.
Funeral attendant: The main element in this will be assisting in bearing a coffin, so strength and physical confidence are key. You would also be confident and sensitive when engaging with funeral attendees. The amount of time involved with each funeral can vary from location to location. We pay a generous fee and we add mileage if you are asked to drive other colleagues. We will provide a black suit for you.
We do not agree with zero-hours contracts. This is casual work and we accept that our team members will make us aware of the times they cannot be available.
Training will be provided for both roles, and we will make a payment for your time.
