Planning a funeral made easy
Writing down your funeral wishes does not need to be linked to paying for a funeral in advance. It enables you to make sure your funeral is a good experience for those attending as well as taking some strain off those who will be organising it.
We have a document called ‘Funeral And Farewell Wishes’. It asks every question we can think of to help you organise your funeral from how you would like it to be paid for, to any particular requests about your care after you have died, type of coffin, venue, transport, donation, flowers and ideas for the ceremony itself like music and readings.
You can go through the document, just put a line through anything which is not of interest and write what you want in the relevant sections. This can then be left in an obvious place or given to your next of kin or executor. Job done.
It can be good to write down the main things and leave some decisions to those who are left behind to add their own ideas. What can be most important about a funeral is getting the tone right, a tone that fits your personality. Some people are more formal, some more humourous and whimsical, and these can be reflected in the choices made.
